Madison – senior photos!

This afternoon I shot Madison’s senior portraits. We started at Laumeier Sculpture Park and ended in downtown Kirkwood. We hit many of my favorite locations in these two areas. Below are just a few images. I’ll post more this week.

1886th – deployed.

This morning I photographed the departure (to Iraq) of the 1886th medical Army Reserve unit. This started with a simple offer of family photographs to help both the soldiers & their families cope while apart. In the end, everyone involved agreed that they’d really like photos of their final goodbyes. What follows is a small collection from this morning.

deployment photos

Patrick Crader & his son Jackson watched airplanes (above) and shared a snack (below).

deployment photos

The next one is tied for favorite. If I had to say goodbye to Denny for a year, I’d want this photo of us so I could remember his hand on my knee and my head on his shoulder. This is Captain Britton & his girlfriend Kathy (both nurses!).

deployment photos

I admire these families so much. This kind sacrifice & hardship is something I’ve never known and they still step up and do the best they can with it. Incredible.

deployment photos

I love this one too… (BTW, this is Tina & Wayne, my couple).

deployment photos

Keith Sanders had several little ones to say goodbye to.

Then final goodbyes started, here are a couple…

deployment photos

Patrick saying goodbye to his wife Nikki. Nikki’s mom is holding their 4 month-old son (Cooper) in the background. This is my other favorite.

deployment photos

One of the last photos I shoot at a wedding is a hand-held shot of me with the bride & groom. I shot Tina & Wayne’s wedding (last fall) so today before we went into the airport I grabbed one more hand-held. Tina & Wayne; thanks for indulging me on this one, I can’t wait to shoot another when Wayne returns. And to the rest of the 1886th and all your families; thank you for letting me be a part of this – I am truly honored to create these photos for you all. I hope you enjoy them as much as I have enjoyed making them. Stay safe and I look forward to your return – I’m counting the days. Best, ie

What didn’t run…

Okay, here are some of my favorite images that didn’t run from the Cathedral / STL Bride Magazine shoot. Huge thank you to everyone who has called & emailed, your support and enthusiasm humbles me! (I know that sounds dramatic but it’s the word I feel, so there.) Best, ie

Check it out!

Here’s my big news! In October I did a fashion shoot for St. Louis Bride Magazine at the New Cathedral. The NEW CATHEDRAL! How cool is that!?? It was just published in the Spring / Summer issue (now on news stands). Although my spread did not make the cover, I’m over the moon with the piece. So, here’s what ran….

dsc_4583b

Opening spread…. love it.

The image on the left is my absolute favorite. Nothing says majestic like an ornate gold ceiling.

Contributors page… Hair & Make-up was done by Melissa Steele at Neo Hair Salon in Olivette, coordination by Sarah Grus. Pam Bredenkamp of Signature Studio is also on our page, she photographed a piece about cakes that coordinate with dresses, very fun. I mentioned that I didn’t have the cover; that honor went to Jon Koch who did a fabulous job with the fairytale weddings piece.

Finally, when Jane saw me shooting the magazine, she naturally wanted to help. So I let her…

dsc_4587b

But then she really wanted to be involved….

dsc_4602b

Such a helper. Anyway, this was a big deal for me. It’s the first fashion spread I’ve shot and the ONLY time the Cathedral has been used for a photo shoot, period. I was honored to have the gig. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience. Tomorrow I’ll post some of my favorites that didn’t run! Until then, go grab a copy – Borders & Schnucks are your best bets.

Brak’s Special Day!

I’m a bit behind on blogging, so sorry! Just before the holidays my 06.07.08 bridal clients, Jim & Missy, asked me to photograph the adoption of their son Brak. As cheesy as it sounds (and I know it does) it was a huge honor to be asked to document such an incredible event for someone. I’ve loved this family since I met them, so to be present for this day was really special for me. Enjoy the photos. Congratulations Missy, Jim & Brak. I know 08 was a huge year for you and 09 will be even better!

dsc_4133b2

Of course Missy brought balloons, she’s festive like that. ;)

dsc_4165b1

Brak was his usual goofy self.

Just as the judge was about to make his ruling…

And the new family.

Belli Fiori

Remember Krissy & Joe’s wedding? I met florist Lisa Gallagher at their wedding. Lisa grew up with Krissy and owns Belli Fiori (www.bellifioristl.com) on The Hill. Lisa is not professionally trained so her bouquets are really free-form and not so standard. Remember Krissy’s mini-calla lillies? Very cool….

Anyway, I had some images (from Krissy’s wedding) for Lisa so I dropped in Saturday morning… with my two little ones in tow. I’ve got a few images of her building. Couldn’t get any inside shots because there were two unruly children running around. Trust me, I was lucky to get these. Enjoy. Best, ie

Now, I’ve been a mother of two for a year & a half and have nooo problems running errands with them… or so I thought. It was ridiculous. Jane (my 3 year old) immediately took off her coat, both kids started wandering around. Thankfully they veered away from the (breakable) vases and went for the Thanksgiving-themed display (with pine cones and hay). Then someone has to potty. So here I am, trying to communicate with a fellow wedding-industry professional, and we need a potty break. No problem, Lisa totally understands.

And frankly, we were only able to have a conversation because Lisa’s mom (who is a saint, BTW) was entertaining / wrangling my children. How wonderful is she? Incredibly wonderful.

So we use the potty and both kids fall in love with the sink (because it’s short, they can reach the water). As if one potty break wasn’t enough, Griffin (my 1.5 year old) thinks that sounds like a good idea so now we need a diaper change *and* the diaper bag’s in the car, at this point it could only get worse if they broke something. Lisa tells me to leave the kids and go grab the bag. I run. I come back and both kids are making sounds that indicate nothing but pure happiness. Between the pine cones, fun ladies, and small sink those kids could’ve stayed there all day! It was hilarious. As I cleaned up Griff, Jane started helping Lisa assemble a bouquet. She quickly told me she needed to stay and help Lisa. It took awhile (and all 3 women) but I (we) eventually got the kids out the door. When we left Jane said she wanted to go back. I told her maybe some day. I love businesses that can handle my kids… especially when I can’t! Ha!! Lisa does really great work. We recently worked together on another project but I can’t shot pictures yet, but I will when I can. Thanks for letting my kids move around Lisa, I’ll bring leashes next time! Best! ie

AFQ – Dinner party

Tonight my brother was hired to cook for a private dinner party. I went along to shoot promotion images for his website and future marketing materials. I’ve only got a few images tonight but I promise, I’ll post more tomorrow.

Appetizers were served in the wine cellar.

dsc_2807b

Andy did two appetizers, this one was my favorite; shrimp rangoon. Yum. I had at least 4. (shhhh…)

dsc_2946b

All those wine glasses, you know there was going to be some serious wine tasting going on…

dsc_2988b

Genius at work. Andy’s plating up the first course, a 4 piece tasting.

I’m very sorry for only putting up a few images tonight, I’ve got things happening early tomorrow so I really need to hit the sheets. I’ll post again tomorrow — promise. Andy, thanks for letting me watch you work – it’s always fun and educational. Best – ie

Becker Rehearsal Dinner

Tonight I photographed a rehearsal dinner for Tony & Hadas. They’re getting married tomorrow at the Lucas School House in Soulard. Dinner was at Andrew’s French Quarter, so you know the food was super yummy!

The lovely couple – we got outside just 10 minutes too late… not as much light as I wanted, but still lovely.

Another lovely couple! Don & Sandy Becker, Tony’s parents. The couple had fun with their theme… their tables (for tomorrow’s reception) will be named after Presidential pets and each table will have a President’s favorite beverage!

Red roses and purple buckets of candy – perfect.

Hadas and her dad having a moment.

Hadas’ brother gave a very nice toast — and believe me, I’ve heard a few.

Andy out-did himself with dessert – it was beautiful.

And the award for best use of color goes to… Larry! I saw this ensemble early in the evening and just couldn’t stop loving it. This was the last frame I shot, fabulous. And yes, Larry picks out his own clothes! Well done Larry! Hadas & Tony – thanks for sharing your evening with me. Have a wonderful wedding! Best – ie

Dana & Jack – Married!!

What a crazy day!! Dana and Jack got married at the Old Cathedral in downtown STL today. The day was fabulous in every way once we got past the craziness that the Obama rally brought to the area. Truthfully, Dana & Jack handled the stress very well. I’ve just got a few photos now, I’ll post more tomorrow or Monday. Dana & Jack – thank you so much for sharing your day with me, it was beautiful and super fun!

The Old Cathedral really is beautiful. And I like that it’s a cathedral but still intimate.

All Catholic churches have a crucifix but most are 3-D, this one is 2-D and I LOVE it.

Seriously, could Jack be any happier?

Two days before the wedding, the Obama rally was announced and Dana was really concerned that we wouldn’t be able to get any photos under the Arch. Luckily it’s big and we found our angle. Yay us!

Nice moment.

I haven’t looked at everything so I’m not sure if this is my *favorite* but I really like this setting. Jack & Dana met at SLU. Sorry to be so brief but I need to hit the sheets! Can’t wait to share more with you! Best – ie
